Today I have a guest post by JThorn on the topic of training ChatGPT to write our stories.

Let’s get to it.

Using a custom “Pre-Prompt” is a great way to have ChatGPT create consistent, high-quality text that matches your particular style.

Here’s a simple recipe for creating and using a personal writing style guide with AI.

Step 1: Define Your Style

First, identify your preferred writing style.

This could involve elements like:

  • tone (formal, informal),

  • specific language usage (American English, British English),

  • favored words or phrases,

  • special formatting instructions.

For instance, your style guide may include:

  • Tone: Formal, academic

  • Language: American English

  • Preferred phrases: “For instance” instead of “for example”

  • Formatting: Use Oxford commas, bullet points for lists

Step 2: Craft Your “Pre-Prompt”

Your “pre-prompt” will essentially be a brief instruction to ChatGPT based on your style guide. It should clearly convey your style elements. Here’s an example:

Step 3: Test the AI

After creating your “pre-prompt,” it’s time to test the AI. After pasting your “pre-prompt,” follow it with a simple task. An example test could be:

ChatGPT will then generate a response that fits the guidelines you provided.

Step 4: Refine Your “Pre-Prompt”

Based on the output from the AI, refine your “pre-prompt.” You might need to be more specific or adjust the phrasing of your instructions.

Iterate this process until you’re satisfied with how ChatGPT incorporates your style guide. Keep your guide handy and use it each time you interact with the AI.

Remember, AI learns from interactions, so the more precise and consistent your instructions, the better it can align with your personal style guide.

I hope you enjoyed today’s guest post.
